It is so hard to believe Drew was 9 months old on St. Paddy’s Day. Time is going so fast, but we are enjoying every minute. Much to my delight he has now mastered Ma-Ma in addition to Da-Da, Ba-Ba and his constant singing. His laugh is the best thing ever. Nothing can make your day like your child’s giggle. He has 4 more teeth coming in on the top. This will mean 6 teeth total. You can tell they hurt, but he doesn’t seem to mind much. He is as happy as ever. He is becoming more mobile and more and more adventurous. He has progressed from rolling everywhere to scooting on his back with a crab crawl to finally some form of crawling. He started army crawling, but is now working better at coordinating arms, elbows, knees and legs. When he spots something he wants the coordination is amazing! I don’t know how or why, but he will bypass every toy and book in his path to get to a cord, plug or the blinds. He can spot them all a mile away. We are going to be in full blown baby-proofing mode very soon.
Learning to stand and balance is a lot harder than it looks.
With a mouth full of new teeth he is very interested in real food. He loves the teething biscuits and meat sticks as you saw in the last post and is starting to try new things off our plates. His latest favorite was edamame and steamed gyoza from Sakura Bana. Steamed gyoza, for those of you who aren’t up on your Japanese, is a steamed egg roll-a small, soft pocket of shredded veggies and chicken. Won’t be long before he can start enjoying sushi!
Kevin spent a much needed weekend away turkey hunting after pulling some serious Daddy Duty when I was sick earlier in the week. Drew and I enjoyed the 20th Annual Mal’s St. Paddy’s Day in Jackson. St. Paddy’s Day in the heart of the South has grown to be quite a big deal. I think this year’s parade was expected to have more than 100,000 people watching and the 5th largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the country. Several years ago local author, Jill Conner Brown, wrote a book titled the Sweet Potato Queens. It is a twist on the normal southern etiquette. It has now become an international phenomenon with Sweet Potato Queen Wannabe chapters all over the world. Brown decided the St. Paddy’s Day parade would be her yearly convention for the queens and it just grew from there. The paper on Saturday said more than 50,000 women from as far away as Australia attended the kick-off reception Friday. If you want to see what soccer mom’s do for fun on a girl’s weekend with no kids just google and you will find lots of pictures. All the “wannabe queens” march in an afternoon parade in their full costume and local groups join in with floats. It is a Mardi Gras style parade. Drew and I attended the morning events which included the pet parade and children’s carnival. The theme this year was in honor of Mississippi artist Jim Henson and Kermit was the grand marshal. They brought in the Kermit balloon used in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. It was a lot of fun and the weather held out for us.

I know they are going to kill me, but oh well. We were SOOO PROUD of Susan and Chris running the 5K. Wish I could have done it with them. Maybe next year.Who looks this good after a 5K and then walks another mile to hang out with a 9 month old?!?! They are great friends.
Drew LOVES Mr. Chris. In case you can't tell Chris is teaching Drew to stick out his tounge. Lovely.
We are looking forward to Easter. Drew’s Easter bucket came in last week and it is so cute. I am on the hunt for some blow-up Easter bunnies. One of my first Easter memories is of a 4-foot tall blow-up Easter bunny in my living room on Easter morning. I am sure Maggie still has it, but I think we will invest in a new one.
So much more going on, but I will save it for another day. For all of you who are saving the date, we have officially set his birthday party for Saturday, June 19th. It is going to be a fun time to have so much family here with us.
