Blogging about Drew...

Andrew "Drew" Ayres Gay

So I have finally decided to give in and start a blog. With so many family and friends so far away it is hard to keep everyone updated on Drew. Kevin and I love parenthood and Drew is growing so fast. We want to share our fun with all of you and let you enjoy the his daily changes.

Let me start this by saying I don't have my mother-in-law's gift of writing. (I am hoping Drew gets that gift from his Nana!) You would think as a preacher's daughter writing a weekly or daily blog wouldn't be a problem, but this isn't my forte. All of that said, please bear with me and ignore the occasional grammatical errors and mis-spellings. I am going to try to remind my perfectionist side that this is for pleasure and will not be graded. We want all of you to be able to enjoy "the ride" of parenthood with us. We will try to update this regularly with Drew's changes and add in pictures.

So here goes....

Drew is WONDERFUL! Kevin and I love everyday with him. We had no idea we could ever love something so much and sure didn't expect to enjoy parenthood this much. Drew is up to at least 10lbs and gaining everyday. We went to the doctor two weeks ago to try to get his breast milk/formula mix right to try to help some gas and reflux problems. We have switched to supplementing with Soy formula and taking some reflux drops which seem to be working great. He is sleeping for about 4-5 hours straight at night which is making life better. Mom and Dad really appreciate this and look forward to 5-6 hours. He does great getting out and about and we are VERY blessed that he likes car rides. (There are a lot of trips in his future!) He has already grown out of his 0-3 month Onesies, which made me want to cry. We are just days away from moving up to size 1 diapers. The rain and cool afternoons have made afternoon walks almost a daily occurrence. He loves being outside. No doubt he is his father's child. He can't get enough of the outdoors.

As for his parents, we are doing well. I am starting to work some from home to handle day-to-day problems, but won't officially go back to work until the first of October when he starts daycare. I dread the day I have to take him, but we are so lucky that we got into the church daycare. He will be in a class of 5 infants with 2 teachers and tons of the kids of our friends already go there. Kevin is back to trying cases and staying busy. I think it is hard for him to leave us some days and he does manage to meet us for lunch and come home early some, which is great.

The following is a link to his Nana's column that appeared in the Adel News two weeks after he was born. (Go to page 4 under Ann's Chatter) What a great memory.

Thanks to all of you who have sent us your prayers and support. And, especially, to all of you who have made the trip to Jackson to visit. We can't tell you how much we appreciate everything. We can't wait to share Drew with all of you and for him to get to know you. He is so lucky to have such amazing circle of friends and family.

  1. "I am going to try to remind my perfectionist side that this is for pleasure and will not be graded." Good Luck with that!!! You trained me. I can't even send a letter to my child's teacher without changing or correcting it 3 times! LOL...

This is a great idea. I look forward to the pictures and Abbey Carol wants to know when she can come see Mr. Drew!
